The chart above represents a few important facts. First, roughly 23 million Americans (equivalent to 13% of the entire US population) is addicted to drug or alcohol. Second, of those 23 millions Americans, only 2.1 million (equivalent to roughly 10% of the addicted population) is actually getting adequate treatment. This means that America has roughly 20 million people that are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and not getting the treatment they need. This is startling because those addicts don’t just hurt themselves, they hurt their families and society at the same time. The issue of drug and alcohol treatment effects the entire population.
