Here is a simple chart put together by Sharon Blair and Nathan Blair to outline the only options a drug/alcohol addict has. No one grows up saying “Man, I can’t wait to be an addict,” but it happens. And it happens frequently. What’s important is to show how that person can change their life. There’s not very many options once someone is addicted, as you can see. Basically there are 3 options: death, jail or treatment. The first option – death – is unacceptable. The second option – jail – is unproductive and leads to a recurring cycle of drug abuse and addiction. Therefore the only real option is to detox and receive treatment/rehabilitation. It’s good for the person, good for society, and actually saves tax payers money as opposed to jail. This is what The Jennifer Act is all about.
